I swear I’m trying!!!!

Yeah, yeah, another week I am late.  So sue me.  Both my readers need to get a grip on themselves.  I have been failing myself as well.  But there is a silver lining here as well.  I am learning stuff with school in full swing.  Will effect my writing?  I am hoping so, if we ever get to that.  Right now just a LOT of reading, which isn’t bad, but to be fair to my classmates, I have had more than twice the time they have had to read.  That is one thing about going back to school in your forties, all the kids you are around.

The system is set up to teach them, not you.  Which isn’t a bad thing, I have re-learned things a little and others things I knew have been codified, like when you hear a concept explained that you knew about but never knew the actual term.  The one class I see as a total waste of time is my programming class.  Not that it’s worthless, I mean used to program and this is bringing back a lot of that memory.  I forgot all of that for a reason though, there are sites like this that let me do it all without coding.

I am not knocking the class for what it teaches, just that I don’t need it, but the degree requires it.  The other down side is that it is a LOT of homework.  It eats up my time, like the time I could be trying to get this blog out on a consistent schedule.  The actual writing classes are fine, thus far.  I have actually had to write a little bit, but am restricted to like 1000 words or less.  For someone who can do 1000 words while dropping a duece I find it very restricting.

Now for the goodish news.  When I start getting this short blurps back I will start tossing them up here.  It helps to provide content and all two of my readers can see how I progress.  I am currently taking Creative non-fiction and fiction.  The fiction class is geared more towards literary fiction, so none of that flashy stuff I have wrote.  Speaking of which there are now 12 chapters over on Royal Road to read of Emporium of Awesome.

The most annoying part of school is the lack of time I have to actually write.  I had produced 70 pages, 22000, words in my new project until I started back to school and have had NO time to keep at it.  The lack of progress annoys me to no end.  I also have another idea simmering in my think pan.  I did a book on my time in the Marines, I want to do another about being a Nerd.  Sounds exciting eh?  Maybe not as enlightening as the other, but I have been a nerd a lot longer than I was a Marine and have covered almost every aspect of it in my life.  Whatever, its my time to waste………

I do have to say though my capstone class is turning out to be more interesting than I thought.  At first it appeared to be an exercise in self indulgent academia, but it becoming kind of interesting.  That being said I will have to wait and see how that rolls.  I am already a quarter of the way through the semester and I hope the last 3/4 go as fast.  The quicker I get through this the faster I can get to putting pen to paper all the time, faster.

That’s enough rambling for now, next time I might actually have some writing to share……

Back to the grind!!

Not even sure what to rant about today.  Just saying hi pretty much.  I should actually have some writing for your consumption at some point soon.  School is trekking right along and taking a ton of classes makes for little time for my regular writing.  Instead I have to conform to the things they want me too.  I think I may have found a way to capitalize on this though, not to sure on the details.  But it seems a waste to do a lot of writing for classes and then to never use it again.

Now I am just rolling over on a tangent.  But since I am just doing that then why not just go with it.  Speaking of school, I like to take my notes using a computer.  I can type faster than I can write and my writing is trash anyway, it’s like a drunk doctor with epilepsy.  Not to mention I have carpal tunnel in both my wrists.

Anyway 11 classes so far and all of them but one I just talked to the teacher and told them what was going on and it was cool.  This one though nope, not having it.  Now I understand policy and procedure, Christ I was a Marine for 15 years so I know it better than most.  Th e real kicker is that this is a computer class……..  And when I tried to talk t her about it I was told things like, “Writing is key to communication” as in hand writing.  Is it?  No it isn’t.  And as a computer professor one would think they would know this, between email, phones, and other tech hand writing is almost a dead thing.

The real kicker, to me anyway, is that she started stating that studies have shown that writing it, then typing helps with retention.  And yes that is true for my classmates, who are less then half my age, and the study is correct when looking at large groups of young ones whose brains are still developing.  I, however, and well aware of my metacognition, and having a Master’s in Education, getting told how best I learn by a computer teacher just annoyed me.

So now I have to go through the school’s disability resource service to get what I want, and I have never had to before because what I have wanted has been so minor that most people just say sure man.  Ahh, the fun of being treated like the masses.  I am not saying I shouldn’t, but when there is such a blatant difference it should be obvious to anyone that I don’t fit the mold of the 18-20 year going to college, and its kind of like DUH, so it confuses me when I am treated like that after making mild inquires.  That is another rant though.

On a better note, I am tossing another chapter up on Royal Road and all that.  So head over and read up.

I been busy, so sue me!!!!

The picture is pretty right?

I have to admit something at this point.  The back of my book kind of lies.  You see I actually don’t have a Bachelors in Writing…….. yet.  I am actually in my Senior year and recently started back to class.  That is one reason I have been missing in action here on the blog.  I have a whopping 18 credits this semester and 15 more next one, then I graduate with the degree.  It seemed better to list it on the bio now than to go back and fix it later.

On the plus side, or more like the DUH side, I added TWO chapters to the Emporium of Awesome fiction over at Royal Road, link at the top.  So if you have been jonesing for time traveling nerds then go on over and check that out.  Besides that not a lot has been happening.  I have managed to crank out some more chapters in me sequel fantasy book.  Alas though there is no point to talk about it here since the first book isn’t even edited yet.  Silly me.

On the bright side I will be doing a fair amount of Non-fiction and fiction writing for school this semester, I will post some of it here as I go along.  Heck maybe some of you two might actually enjoy it.  We shall see though.

This blog is going to be a bit short because, well I have homework.  My updates will be switching to Tuesday or Thursday now.  Wed I have 5 classes, needless to say finding time to post here would be kind of a pain in my ass.  I will be adding an actual writing section here soon though, so look for that.  Then you can go straight for the good stuff and bypass this drivel.

Until next time have fun and read.

Not a lot going on here, but still wanting to post something.  Well that’s it.  have a nice day………

Just kidding.  I can type and write about most things.  Though it might not be the most exciting thing.  I have just been jumbling about with various things for the last week.  I usually slow down when I finish something.  It has been a couple of weeks since I finished Memoirs, but after getting the proof copies I did some adding, editing, etc.  I was also thinking of adding pictures.  Someone pointed out that books like that should have pics.  So I have been looking around for stuff to cram in and where it should go.

I have also been working on fantasy book #2.  I am going with “The Apt” for the title of the first.  The second will be something like “The Redeemed”.  It’s not that I like short titles, but trying to come up with something that represents it and doesn’t give too much away is always the trick.  It will most likely have a subtitle, but who knows.  I already know the third book will be called “The Damned”.

That is always hard when writing, the middle, at least for me.  That is true with the stories themselves, but also series, trilogies, etc.  he second book is actually the middle.  I know there is enough there for a book, maybe.  But the ending, book three, I know will be more than enough for its own tale.

I also know that this is an area where I am not that strong, if I see a grand idea that can span three books, I have a tendency to spend a lot of time in book one developing characters, book two world building, and finally get to all the good stuff.  I had to go back when Remnant was done and add some action to catch the reader.  It’s not a awful thing as long as I am aware of it and can go back and polish it up a bit.  I will say that Book 3, Vengeance of my City State Trilogy is mostly action and the longest book of the three.

So I am weird like that.  I guess i will eventually get into the habit of tossing in some more exciting stuff as I go forward.  I have in The redeemed.  Only 60 pages in and there has been a lot of action.  It fits the story though, I didn’t force it.  We shall see in the end though.

Chapter 7 of Emporium is getting tossed up on Royal Road as well this week.  Go and enjoy it, both of you.

Is once a week good enough for you?

So I have been not doing two blogs a week, sorry for that.  I was on a tear the last week or so with the project in the picture.  I just got into a groove and wrote.  When you get in that zone you don’t really want to let much else get in your way, because it is kind of rare to hit that 5,000+ word days in which it all seems good.

These are just proof copies.  I have actually written an additional chapter and rewritten another in it, but the first draft was done.  I like to edit a hard copy and I’m not a fan of Binders.  I did that with my last one, Wired Thoughts, and it gets messy.  I can get a proof copy for under $5.  It also gives me something nice to give to test readers.

I have to confess though that it did take precedence from my other project, my fantasy sequel.  So ya know, have to get back to that.  Just started chapter 8 with that and chapter 5 of my thriller.  So those are ongoing, one is at 11k words, the other is at like 6k.  Not that any of my two readers care.

I actually found out who one of you are. So beware, WOOT!!!!

Back to my finished one though.  It’s kind of short, but basically an autobiography.  I haven’t had the most exciting life, so not to long.  But the title “The Fictitious Memoirs of a Jarhead in the Suck”, was just too fun not to use.  So I rolled with it  and made it so.  On the bright side that is book seven done.  That’s the third this year, so I feel it has been a good year so far.  Sure only one published, but you have to start somewhere.

I am thinking if this one is low on the editing scale I might roll it out before Inheritance, but it shouldn’t delay it too much.  Just saying.

Anyway, new chapter from Emporium is up on Royal Road, link at the top.  It has a 4.5 start rating so far……..  That will fall as more chapters roll out.  But go and enjoy!!!!!
